What every Pet Owner should know!

1. Please Microchip your pet. You might think that your pet will never be far from you. However, accidents, break ins, severe weather or much more are reasons to microchip your pet. This way if the unthinkable happens you can be reunited. Microchipping is inexpensive and can save your pets life and your heartache.

2. Always have a disaster plan for your family and your pets, this includes a pet supply kit. You never know when something unexpected happens.

3. Always keep current pictures of your pets, that includes all sides of your pet.

4. Always be aware of what medications are dangerous to your pets. There are many over the counter medications that are highly toxic and can be fatal to your dog or cat. Always consult your vet before giving any type of medication to your pet.

5. Always be aware of what human foods are dangerous to your pets. There are many foods, sweets and drinks that we, as humans, love to have, but to your dog or cat they are poisonous! Some of these toxic foods are chocolate, xylitol (a sweetener found in most candies and gum), caffeine, onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, alcohol and there are so much more dangerous food items! So before you give something to your pet, be sure to check if it is safe for them to eat! There are plenty of yummy and safe recipes out there for both you and your pets to enjoy together!

6. Please, Keep your dogs and cats on heartworm preventatives, even in the winter. Death by heartworms is horrific.

7. Please Spay and neuter all your pets. Shelters and rescues are over run by unwanted pets. By spaying or neutering your pet, you are helping keeping the population of unwanted pets down.
