This is not meant to be harsh, but it is a point that needs to be made.
After Hurricane Laura leaves the area, thousands of pets will be lost and wandering around. Those picked up by rescuers will be checked for a microchip; those with the microchip will have an excellent chance of being reunited with their family, while those without a microchip will go to a horrifically overcrowded shelter and will sadly be put to death because there is not enough room. Sometimes they will be sent to an out of state shelter that has room, but the chances of your beloved pet coming home to you is very slim.
I know that pet owners think this will never happen to them, but you never know what could happen... It is always safe to go the extra mile to be on the safe side, so if the inevitably happens, you have a great chance to be reunited with your family.
