17 Plants Poisonous to Pets

Lilies, are considered highly toxic to cats. Even ingestion of small amounts can cause severe kidney damage.


Marijuana, ingestion by companion animals can result in depression of the central nervous system or even seizures and coma.


Sage plants, all parts are poisonous, but the seeds or nuts contain the most toxins. Just the ingestion of one or two seeds can result in liver failure.


Tulip/Narcissus bulbs, are toxic to companion animals.


Azalea/Rhododendron, contain substances called gravantoxins which can ultimately lead to coma or death.


Oleander, all parts of the plant are considered toxic and can lead to death.


Caster Bean, the poisonous principle is ricin, a highly toxic protein that can lead to a variety of symptoms and even death.


Cyclamen, highest concentration of toxins is in the root and can lead to severe gastrointestinal irritation and even some fatalities.


Kalanchoe, contains components that can produce severe gastrointestinal irritation, as well as those that are toxic to the heart.


Yew, contains a toxic component known as taxines which causes central nervous system effects that could result in death.


Amarylis, Common garden plant that cause vomiting, depression diarrhea and abdominal pain.


Autumn Crocus, can result in oral irritation, bloody diarrhea, shock and multi organ damage.


Chrysanthemum, if ingested they may produce gastrointestinal upset.


English Ivy, Pothos and Schefflera are all toxic to companion animals.
